If you want to enjoy the outdoors more, make the most of your backyard deck space. If you have used it mainly for sunbathing or watering your flowers, here are some tips for enjoying this valuable part of your home even more.

Set Up a Picnic Area

Get an outdoor grill for your deck and start eating outside more often. Arrange a picnic table or patio furniture to enable the family to enjoy an open-air meal freshly cooked on the grill, especially lean meats and a bevy of nutritious vegetables. Healthy food eaten outside on a sunny day is a fun way to relax and enjoy the great outdoors. With a checkered tablecloth or your pattern of choice along with decorative paper plates and the kids’ favorite water bottles, it will feel like a picnic in the park.

Add Comfortable Seating

Set up a glider, a porch swing, and padded lawn chairs for comfort. Relax on a chaise lounge or in a hammock for a nap. Spread out thick, soft blankets to sit or lay on at night and watch the stars come out. Help the kids pitch youth tents for a summer adventure. Whether you want to read, relax, or chat with friends, cozy seats in appealing styles will beckon you to spend more time outside.

Create a Nature Site

Hang a bird feeder to attract hummingbirds or your favorite species. Install a birdhouse on a nearby tree bough and watch bird families raise their young. Plant a variety of shrubs, plants, and flowers around the perimeter of your deck to enjoy the sights and scents of seasonal blooms. Watch squirrels scramble among the tree limbs and scamper through the yard. Enjoying nature can reduce stress and help to restore calm.

Decorate With Flowers and Plants

Have fun hanging up potted plants or set up a few larger pots of mini-trees or flowering shrubs. Plant flowers around the base of the floor for scented, natural beauty to gaze at while relaxing outdoors.

Convert It into a Recreational Area

Install retractable awning or an overhang to shade the area from too much sunlight. Bring out a cart or mini-cupboard with books, games, and music CD’s for a relaxing getaway. Organize the deck furniture so everyone can do preferred activities without disturbing others. Some chairs might face the yard for nature watching while others could face each other for conversation. Include small tables for snacks and beverages.

Make the most of your backyard deck to enjoy a variety of fun or relaxing activities.
